William Baumgarten built Baumgarten Resort. Bill's first house was located next to Riverview School where his first wife May taught school. Bill guided out of various resorts. His name appears on many of Clement's Resort musky charts. According to legend Bill used an old horse named Nellie to make the road, clear the resort, clear the beach, and dredge the boat slip (which is still there and was used by the webmaster in 2002. John McGilligan purchased the resort in 1970. John and Ruth owned and operated the resort from 1970 until 1976 when he sold it to the Walt and Dianna Robb family. Walt and his family, Dianna, Andy, and Donald, ran the resort from 1976 until he sold the lease to the resort to the DNR in 1992 ish? Some notable people that stayed at the resort were Wisconsin governor Warren Knowles and George Pazik the editor of Fishing Facts magazine.
That's all the information I have for now. We would love some stories and photos from guests. How about it families who stayed at Baumgarten's? The Niles. Bobby and Henry you out there somewhere? The Lecos family? (The Webmaster went to the Hayward drive in with the Lecos family/girls and saw the movie The Good the Bad and the Ugly). Julius and Dugan's families? Julius and Dugan used to fish a special way and landed some pigs! Buy the Webmaster beer some time and he will tell you their secret. One night they supposedly had a fish on so large that they had to tie the line on the oarlock because they got tired. They were in there 80s to 90s at the time. The Jim Bainbridge's family? (Jim used to fly into the resort using the airstrip next-door). |
